He began training in Goju-ryu Karate-do while in high school for 2 years.

He entered Minowa Katsuhiko sensei’s dojo (Shubukan) in 1981 (Showa 56) where he trained in Ryukyu Kobudo and Uechi-ryu Karate-do. He remained Minowa sensei’s student till his passing in 2003. Continues to train till this day.

While studying with Minowa sensei, many other students left the dojo. For a two-year period only he and Minowa sensei were practicing.

He became the chairman of the Ryukyu Kobudo Shinkokai after the passing of Minowa sensei.

2002 (Heisei 14) – Received his 7th dan in Ryukyu Kobudo from Minowa sensei
